Mr. P and Darkoo: Music Quarrel Over “Focus On Me” music video
Darkoo, a British-Nigerian rapper, has taken to her X (fka twitter) account accusing P-Square’s Peter Okoye (Mr. P) of undermining her record “Focus On Me,” which borrows the band’s hit song “On Fire”.
According to the rapper, the sampling process for “Focus On Me” was handled professionally. All the necessary clearances were secured, and a generous agreement was reached, giving P-Square 50% ownership of the song’s earnings. However, things reportedly took a dramatic turn when Mr. P allegedly demanded to be featured on the track. Darkoo declined the request, asserting her creative independence. She claims this led to Mr. P taking retaliatory action by arranging for the removal of her music video from YouTube, delaying its availability for six critical days.
Darkoo was disappointed, pointing to P-Square’s impact on her professional life. Since Mr. P has said nothing, fan conjecture has grown. The dispute brings to light difficulties in artist partnerships and sampling. Darkoo’s song, which was lauded for its Afrobeat sound, is now back online in spite of the setback. Fans look forward to Mr. P’s reaction and wait for his responses.
