After a year brimming with highlights, including the critically acclaimed hit single “OSIX” in 2023, Nigerian afrobeat and dancehall singer-songwriter Yungsam now embraces a newfound sense of creative freedom on his sophomore EP.
Yungsam (Emomotimi Samuel Ebitimi) represents a fresh wave of African Afropop—one centred around joyful vibes and originality, with less concern for conforming to familiar sounds. “Growing up in Nigeria has created the genius in me when it comes to my sound,”
“Growing up in Nigeria has cultivated the genius within me when it comes to my sound,” he explains. “and what motivates me to move every morning. All the encounters I have had brought out that genius in me in different ways—the genius that dares to do things his way.”
Across its six tracks, The Day Is Yung provides ample space for Yungsam’s distinctive voice to shine as he navigates themes of inner peace and authenticity. “The day is yung, and it’s an absolute vibe,” he shares. “It is the tenderness of being free from the past and focusing on what the future brings. And when I think of those songs, I am teleported into a different dimension where everything feels like victory and peace .”
