Grammy-winning and Oscar-nominated Nigerian R&B singer Tems recently appeared on Hot 97’s Ebro, Peter Rosenberg, and Laura Stylez show.
In the interview, she discussed her unique approach to creating music, sharing that she often freestyles and plays beats until she crafts something deeply rooted in her emotions and feelings at the time.
Tems also opened up about her journey, revealing that her mother was her unwavering supporter. Despite graduating with a degree in Economics, she had always aspired to pursue a music career.
Tems explained how music became her way of expressing her feelings, especially given that she didn’t have many close friends during her upbringing. She revealed her early dream of becoming a jazz singer and performing in bars. Despite her seemingly reserved nature, she emphasised her strong determination to pursue her talents and career.
Born as Temilade Openiyi on June 11, professionally known as Tems, she’s a renowned Nigerian singer and songwriter. Her breakthrough came with the release of her single Try Me in 2019. However, her career reached new heights after being featured on Wizkid’s 2020 hit Essence, which even earned a Grammy Award nomination. In the same year, she collaborated with Drake on Fountains.
